About Expression Engine

This site is built on Expression Engine and many of the sites from Noregt are also based on it.

What is it?
Expression Engine (EE) is a website system that allows you as a client to write your own entries without any HTML knowledge. This is called a Content Management System (CMS).
I also use it myself because it is the fastest way to update my site. I used to have Flash, but updating just took me to much time. Because I’m always busy I will only regularly update the site if it doesn’t take me more than a few minutes. With EE I can do that

So why should I use it?
- Speed!
First of all it allows you to maintain your site within minutes. This would never be possible if you would have to call your webmaster every time. If you want to, you can even e-mail or SMS your articles to the site!
- Work on a site as a group
Anyone with a password can provide content for your site. For instance on http://www.fotografielessen.nl students have access to a restricted image upload area so they can upload photos from the lessons. So you can set access for groups as you please.
- Also EE has proven to be very reliable, I haven’t had any problems yet in the past years since using the system.

But all these CMS sites look the same, don’t they?
Yes and no. EE allows you to give your site any appearance you wish. That’s the main reason why I love working with it! Many people however chose to have their websites to certain standards, making them look more alike. Also the big open source CMS systems like Joomla tend to look alike because many people use similar templates

These systems are way to complicated for me!
Working with this system can be very, very simple! But keeping it very simple also means restricting the choices you can make. If you want a load of possibilities, then it automatically gets more complicated.

But I want a site with flashy animations
I usually combine Flash snippets with EE. That way it looks great, but you still have the ease of use of a CMS system. You can have a full Flash site combined with EE, but building it takes some time and effort. But you might win design prices with it!

CMS systems are very expensive
You can already have it for 1000 Euro. This includes design, building and custom work. Keep in mind that you will be able to do your own stuff very effectively, saving you more than that!

I just want some simple pages
Well why not make it in good old HTML like here and here.
If your site will never contain more then ten pages I strongly recommend you order a regular website and let the webmaster do an update every once in while. Quick, cheap and easy!
